Shaping the Future: Mozilla Fellows Share 2025 Tech Visions

From groundbreaking innovations to bold visions, our 2025 Fellows share their predictions on where technology is headed—and the impact it could have on the world. See their predictions.

Mozilla funds people and projects who are creating better futures using technology.

Mozilla Fellowships find and support a different kind of tech leader: innovators who are imagining, advocating for, and building better futures that put people first. Through our grantmaking, we hope to grow innovative ideas into sustainable projects that have impact in real communities. Taken together, this work of scouting leaders motivated by building better futures for communities and funding tech solutions that put people first is designed to fuel a better, more humane innovation ecosystem.

At present, we are convening a 2024 cohort of Tech + Society fellows as well as a 2025 cohort of Mozilla Fellows. Moving forward, there will be a single fellowship program, through which we will seek to engage a diverse group of experts working to make technology more trustworthy. You can read more about the future of our Fellowship program—and learn how to share any thoughts you might have with us—here.

New grantmaking programs are currently on hold as we develop a strategy for what comes next—we hope to share more about our next phase of grantmaking in 2025. In keeping with our Trustworthy AI impact goal, the majority of our investments over the last three years have been directed toward people and teams who are challenging the status quo in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI); Mozilla was among the first foundations to focus investment in this area starting in 2019. We’ve funded open source projects working on issues like transparency, bias and environmental justice through the Mozilla Technology Fund; new models for community-driven data stewardship through the Data Futures Lab; and artists working to create speculative pieces that can help educate the public through the Creative Media Awards. Look for our future grantmaking strategy to continue engaging teams of open source maintainers working on important issues, with a greater emphasis on sustainability, mentorship, maintenance and long-term support. You can learn more about—and get involved with—our future grantmaking strategy here.
