Kristophina Shilongo

Kristophina Shilongo is a researcher contributing to the sustainable adoption of data-driven technologies in Africa. She is curious about drawing lessons from collective/participatory governance frameworks in various sectors to apply to the development and deployment of AI technologies. She holds a master’s degree from the London School of Economics and Political Sciences focusing on Data and Society as well as a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the Namibia University of Science and Technology.

Fellowship Project

Kristophina makes policy recommendations related to the African Union Data Policy Framework implementation plan, and also national data policies and regulation on the continent. This involves establishing different partnerships or mechanisms, whether they be institutions or infrastructure, to ensure that decisions are made collectively and benefits are shared equitably.

Her project will examine participatory governance models in the conservation sector of Namibia, Mozambique, and South Africa, and explore how these models can be adopted in participatory governance models for AI technologies.
