There are many forces that move the world, and one of them is the collective power of people. Since MozFest chose Amsterdam as its host city, the rally cry for a more humane digital world has gotten louder.

MozFest is the premiere gathering for activists in diverse global movements fighting for a more humane digital world. Amsterdam is a city of innovation that proactively cultivates an environment for protecting data transparency, privacy, and provides equal internet access for citizens.

Our common goals for progressive, radical change in areas of AI, digital rights and literacy, and community inclusion have been a convening force for supporting a more open and healthy internet for all.

While the number of activists, educators, policy makers, artists, consumers, and technologists that have joined the internet health movement over the last few years is in the thousands, there are a few organizations that have partnered with MozFest in exciting and impactful ways. We’re excited to see the passionate faces that make up these organisations in-person at MozFest House: Amsterdam, taking place 19-21 June, 2023.

Here is a spotlight on a few of our Dutch partners and the incredible work they are doing to fight for a more humane digital world.

IDFA DocLab

IDFA’s new media program DocLab has been exploring the art of interactive and immersive non-fiction since 2007. Over the years, IDFA DocLab has developed into one of the leading platforms for interactive documentary art and storytelling. They commission new pieces, initiate collaborations between artists, and offer a wide range of industry activities to support those shaping the landscape of emerging media and art.

City of Amsterdam

The ongoing digitization of municipal services to the citizens of the City of Amsterdam has increased the importance of the algorithms applied to make these services function. The Algorithm Register provides a window into an overview of artificial intelligence systems and algorithms used by the City of Amsterdam. Through the register, citizens can get acquainted with these algorithmic systems or examine their more detailed information based on their specific interests. They can also give feedback and thus participate in building human-centered AI in Amsterdam. The register is still in development, and Amsterdam has organised sessions at MozFest to solicit feedback from its participants in order to make sure the register is even easier to access and use for the citizens of Amsterdam.

University of Applied Sciences

The Responsible AI Lab of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, studies AI Technology and engages in dialogue about it. The Lab focuses on the human side of AI, asking questions like why and how are we using Artificial Intelligence, and for whom and what are the consequences of this technology? How can we design AI applications in an ethically and socially responsible way? Questions that align with the ones MozFest is centered around makes it an excellent platform to share ideas and lab results with a wider audience.

SIDN Fund

The SIDN Fund was set up to help create an open, free, and trustworthy internet with empowered and skilled users. The fund encourages and financially supports projects that contribute to this mission. Even before MozFest decided to come to Amsterdam, SIDN Fund regarded it as one of the foremost platforms to showcase their projects, solicit feedback from their global community, and announce their open calls for projects.

Digital Rights House

Our activities at Digital Rights House and iYYU are based on the fact that we as humans, citizens of the global society, have basic human rights as stated in the The Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The UN states that Digital Rights are Human Rights in a Digital World. We believe that MozFest is a fantastic international movement that plays an inspiring role in accelerating Digital Rights in today’s society. We are happy to join the movement with our activities and believe together we can accelerate even more.

Thank you to all of the partners who have made Mozilla Festival feel welcome in Amsterdam!
