Call Your Senators and tell them to Save Encryption

Despite immense opposition, Sen. Graham and Sen. Blumenthal are trying to ram through the anti-encryption EARN IT Act this week, using a procedural maneuver that would prevent any debate. Fortunately, Sen. Wyden has registered his objection. But he’ll need to have support from his colleagues to stop it. That’s why our calls are so important.

Call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121

Ask to be connected to the office of one of the senators from your state

You might be transferred to voicemail, in which case you should say you're a constituent (and if you're comfortable share your town or zip code). Whether you leave a message or are connected to a staff member, here are some points you can make:

  • Strong encryption ensures that our information – everything from sensitive financial and medical details, to emails and text messages – is protected
  • The EARN IT Act would undermine encryption, jeopardizing our digital security and privacy
  • That's why the Senator should oppose the EARN IT Act

Once you've called one of your senators, if you have time, you can call the switchboard again to be transferred to your other senator's office. Then use the form on this page to let us know how it went.

If you live in Oregon, and get connected to Sen. Wyden's office, be sure to thank him for taking a strong stand against the EARN IT Act.
