What could happen if something goes wrong

According to NPR (article linked below), in 2017 We-Vibe "reached a $3.75 million class action settlement with users following allegations that the company was collecting data on when and how the sex toy was used." The company didn't admit any wrongdoing as part of the settlement. The lawsuit alleged the company had been tracking users sex lives without their knowledge through the We-Connect app. That data could then potentially be linked to the users' email. The collection of very intimate data and the potential misuse or sharing without knowledge of that data is a concern with nearly any connected sex toy. Updated statement from the company: "When app privacy and security concerns were brought to our attention in 2016, we acted swiftly to update the app. The app does not have any account registration, i.e. we do not ask for name, email, phone number or other identifying information, and users have choice for opting-in to share anonymous app data."

Sex toy maker agrees to stop collecting intimate data
Engadget
It can be quite costly to violate the privacy of sex toy users, apparently. Standard Innovation has settled a lawsuit accusing the company of collecting "highly intimate and sensitive data" from its We-Vibe vibrators without their owners' knowledge and sending it to the company's servers in Canada. The agreement will create a $3.75 million US ($5.06 million Canadian) compensation fund that will pay up to $10,000 US to buyers who used the companion We-Connect app, and $199 US to those who just used the vibrator. More importantly, the company has agreed to both stop collecting sensitive info and to purge the info it has collected until now.

I generally prefer to stay objective and not compare or rank products or vendors, however in this case, I feel I can provide consumers with more context and nuanced information than the Mozilla list does, at least in some of the more technical matters. Utilising the spirit of the criteria that Mozilla laid out, along with my own critiques of them, I've assessed the devices they they had in their list and provided further details that hopefully consumers will use to guide their choices. Please note that these are a snapshot in time and these assessments may change tomorrow with an update. Versions and release dates have been noted where applicable.
