On December 16, 2019, Mozilla will shut down X-Ray Goggles, our educational and open-source browser extension that lets users view and remix websites’ HTML and CSS. All personal data associated with X-Ray Goggles — i.e. log ins and saved content — will be deleted after that date.

We launched X-Ray Goggles in 2014 as part of Mozilla’s web literacy work. Our mission: help internet users better understand how the web works, and also to empower them as creators. Over the years, X-Ray Goggles has won many fans: in classrooms, at hack-a-thons, and among educators and self-taught coders alike.

We’re immensely proud of X-Ray Goggles, and of the team — both staff and volunteers — who made it possible. As Mozilla’s focus shifts from building educational software to advocacy, research, and fellowships, however, we no longer have the bandwidth to properly support X-Ray Goggles. For that reason, we’re decommissioning the tool on December 16, 2019.

We encourage users to continue to engage with Mozilla through other avenues — like our advocacy work, our annual Internet Health Report, our privacy-centric holiday shopping guide, and other projects. Keep track of everything we’re up to by visiting https://foundation.mozilla.org.

For users eager to continue their HTML and CSS education, join our friends at the Mouse Learning Network (for free) and check out their awesome Coding course.
